The latest Netflix action thriller ‘Sweet Girl’ leaves the audience with mixed feelings. Starring superhero Jason Momoa and ‘sweet girl’ Isabela Merced, the movie is packed full of tears, action, and suspense.

The movie reels in the waterworks immediately as it shows a loving family share their struggle with battling cancer. Ray Cooper (Momao) is a loving father and husband watching his wife die from cancer while a pharmaceutical company, Bio Prime, had the drug that could’ve saved her life. When Bio Prime pulls out at the last minute, this builds tension and sets the theme of revenge for Cooper as his daughter (Merced) watches him from the side-line.

The movie was great based on the little plot it had to run with. If I could spoil the movie and break down the clues of the plot twist cleverly placed within each scene, I would. The characters were undoubtedly amazing. Momoa is a great actor so it wasn’t hard for Aquaman to pull off a poor human life in this film.

The action was gripping, and the acting was heartfelt. Critics may have disliked the portrayal of their favourite superhero delivering a role of a protective father, but I would argue it was good! A sweet girl gone sour through all her traumatic experiences was a role that Merced played so well. This may be an unpopular opinion, but her action was much more impressive and convincing than Momoa; she carried this role so well that it left critics and Momoa fans salty. Merced executed her expressions so strongly that it was truly convincing that her trauma and revenge reflected her entire being.

Overall, the film should’ve given Momoa more to work on in terms of action and plot, but he was still great. This movie showcased to the world that Merced may be very young, but she’s brilliant. The action is exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The cinematography was class, leaving us with sharp and dark scenery throughout the film. If you want to chew on popcorn in one sitting, I’d say watch it.
