Scottish Championship Opening Weekend Round-Up

Arbroath 0 – 1 Inverness Caledonian Thistle

Inverness seen themselves come out on top on their opening weekend with a 1-0 victory. A goal in the 66th minute of the match from Shane Sutherland was all they needed to secure their first three points. Yellow cards were shown to Arbroath’s Colin Hamilton and Gavin Swankie. Yellows were also given to ICT’s Kirk Broadfoot and Billy McKay.

Ayr United 0 – 2 Kilmarnock

The first Ayrshire derby in almost 25 years seen Kilmarnock come out victorious. Goals from new signing Liam Polworth and a penalty taken by Innes Cameron secured the win for Killie. Seven yellow cards were given out as the bitter rivalry raged on. Kilmarnock’s Chris Stokes, Brad Lyons and Danny Armstrong were all shown yellows. Ayr’s Tomi Adeloyo, Jordan Houston, Cameron Salkeld and Jack Baird were also given yellow cards.

Dunfermline Athletic 2 – 2 Greenock Morton

A first half goal from Morton’s Gary Oliver put them in front but Nikolay Todorov equalised five minutes into the second half. Kevin O’Hara went on to put Dunfermline 2-1 in the 70th minute but Lewis McGrattan scored the equaliser for Morton shortly after. Yellow cards were shown to Dunfermline’s Ross Graham and Deniz Dogan Mehmet and to Morton’s Gary Oliver.

Hamilton Academical 4 – 4 Rath Rovers

Hamilton had a dramatic comeback against Raith Rovers after going 4-0 down with 25 minutes left in the game. Raith Rovers four goals came from Lewis Vaughan, Dario Zanatta and
Aidan Connolly. Hamilton came back thanks to Kieran MacDonald. Andy Ryan and Shaun Want. The eight goal thriller also featured some yellow cards. Two went to Raith Rovers’ Kyle Benedictus and Matej Poplatnik.

Partick Thistle 3 – 2 Queen of the South

Partick Thistle’s return to the championship was a five goal thriller as their hopes of double promotion start to brew. Goals from thistle’s Brian Graham put the jags ahead at half time. Goals from William Gibson and Ruari Paton seen QOTS equalise but Scott Tiffany secure three points for the jags. Yellow cards were dished out once again. This time to Partick Thistle’s Ross Docherty and Brian Graham. QOTS’s Alistair Roy was also shown a yellow.
