Scottish Premiership Opening Weekend Round-Up

Aberdeen 2 – 0 Dundee United

Aberdeen started their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Dundee United. Johnathon Hayes with the help of Lewis Ferguson gave the dons their first league goal 27 minutes into the match. Christian Ramirez met Calvin Ramsey’s ball to score the second 51 minutes into the game. Yellow cards were awarded to Dundee United’s Ryan Edwards, Calum Butcher and Lawrence Shankland. Aberdeen received one against Lewis Ferguson.

Hearts 2-1 Celtic

Celtic suffered defeat on opening weekend for the first time in 24 years as newly promoted Hearts blundered them 2-1. This marks two back-to-back defeats for the hoops as they were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night. Goal scorer Gary Mackay-Steven netted Hearts’ first Premiership goal within the first 10 minutes of the game. Anthony Ralston, with the help of Odsonne Edouard, secured the equaliser. Then on the last minute of the game John Souttar, with assistance from Michael Smith secured Hearts’ first league win of the season

Dundee 2 – 2 St Mirren

St Mirren opened the score line mere minutes into the game as Eamonn Brophy scored his first league goal this season with the assistance of former Aberdeen player Curtis Mane. A Joe Shaughnessy own goal was Dundee’s equaliser. The goal rush continued into the second half as Jamie McGrath scored a penalty for St Mirren 10 minutes into the second half. Dundee equalised once again thanks to a goal from Jason Cummings which was assisted by Jordan Marshall. Dundee then went down to 10 men towards the last 20 minutes of the game as Max Anderson was sent off.

Motherwell 2-3 Hibernian

Motherwell started off strong in their league opener by going 2-1 up at half time but Hibs ultimately came out on top. Motherwell goals from Kevin Van Veen and Bevis Mugabi were not enough for the steelmen to get all three points. Kyle Magennis scored for Hibs five minutes after Van Veen in the first half. Christian Doidge equalised for Hibs then a penalty from Martin Boyle sealed the winner for Hibs. Five yellow cards were given to Motherwell’s Jake Carroll, Callum Slattery, Kevin Van Veen, Stephen O’Donnell and goalkeeper Liam Kelly. Three yellows were also shown to Hibs’ Paul Hanlon, Lewis Stevenson and Ryan Porteous.

Rangers 3-0 Livingston

Rangers were able to pull off a 3-0 victory at Ibrox as they received a guard of honour from Livingston. Captain James Tavernier was credited with two assists for his role in setting up Ianis Hagi and Scott Wright’s goals. Kemar Roofe was the final goal scorer of the match, finding the net on the 90th minute. Five yellow cards were awarded to Livingston. Adam Lewis and Alan Forrest were penalised in the first half. Craig Sibbald, James Penrice and Nicky Devlin all were given yellows in the second half.

Ross County 0-0 St Johnstone

Cup double winners St Johnstone were held to a goalless draw by Ross County in Dingwall. Alistair McCann missed a penalty for St Johnstone on the 70th minute. Four yellows were given to Ross County and one was given to St Johnstone. Jordan White, Dominic Samuel, Blair Spittal and Coli Donaldson from Ross County were disciplined as was Shaun Rooney from STJ.
