Premier League: 3 Key Moments as Title Rivals Clash
The Premier League this weekend saw two title contenders clash as well as a derby which always promises goals and drama.
Another weekend filled with late winners and plenty of ups and downs, the Premier League didn’t disappoint this weekend.
CITIZENS PULL OUT STATEMENT WIN AT STAMFORD BRIDGE
Chelsea saw their unbeaten start to the season ended by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, as the Citizens managed to see out a 1-0 win at Stamford bridge. Gabriel Jesus’ smart finish in the second half was enough to see off a very defensive Chelsea side.
Chelsea struggled to gain a foothold in the game, failing to register a shot on target, as reigning champions Man City remained strong and resilient to limit the threat.
This win has seemingly kickstarted Man City’s season by beating a fellow title rival and will be full of confidence going into their Champions League match vs PSG and their upcoming league match versus Liverpool.
SIX GOAL THRILLER AS THE BEES STING THE REDS
The early Saturday evening game saw Liverpool travel to Brentford, in a game which would’ve seen the reds move three points clear at the top of the table, but ultimately, poor defending saw the game end in a 3-3 draw.
Despite scoring three goals, Liverpool can feel relieved that they walked away with a point as Brentford dug in from the first minute. If not for a late Van Dijk last ditch tackle on Ivan Toney, the bees could’ve seen themselves going home with all three points.
This game saw another landmark goal for Mo Salah as he reached 100 goals in the premier league. For Liverpool however, he will be made to rue his missed chance late on, as Brentford substitute Yoane Wissa equalised will less than 10 minutes to go.
Liverpool remain top of the table by one point, but will feel this was an opportunity missed with Chelsea and Manchester United both losing this weekend.
GUNNERS RUN RIOT IN NORTH LONDON DERBY
Arsenal this weekend saw the visit of long-time local rivals Tottenham Hotspur, both sides looking to gain the bragging rights once again.
Arsenal came into this off the back of two straight wins in the Premier League, whereas spurs are coming off two straight losses. With Arsenal at home and full of confidence, they came into this game all guns blazing and controlled the game from beginning to end, with first-half strikes from Emile Smith-Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka seeing them go into the second-half with a 3-0 lead. The game would end 3-1..
Spurs are left with many questions to ask after a poor showing from Nuno Santo and his team. With three defeats in their last three league games and with no league goals for Striker Harry Kane, questions will be asked as to how Spurs can bounce back to challenging once again for the top four again, but currently, poor form and a lack of confidence is a major problem for Tottenham.
