Same old Europe, same old Celtic: RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic

It’s three games without a win in the Champions League for the Hoops as they lose in Leipzig.

Before the match, Celtic were missing two key players as Cameron Carter-Vickers was out with an injury and Liel Abada stayed in Glasgow due to religious reasons.

Just after the 10th minute, RB Leipzig captain Peter Gulacsi had to be replaced in between the sticks due to discomfort in the knee. However, that didn’t divert the game plan for Leipzig as they opened the scoring.

Hot prospect Christopher Nkunku originally had a goal disallowed for offside. However, this time he made sure the goal stood as he took the ball past Joe Hart and slotted it into the net. Josip Juranović was left scrambling to get back, but was unable to clear in time.

Ten minutes before the break, Celtic captain Callum McGregor was substituted as he also suffered a knee injury. This will be a huge blow for the Hoops going forward as they’ll be without the main engine of their midfield.

Coming out at half-time, Celtic managed to get themselves back in the game after a great pass from Reo Hatate found the path of Kyogo. The incoming sprint of Jota was enough for Kyogo to spot as he crossed the ball to the Portuguese, leaving him to calmly place it in the net.

As it looked like the visitors were gaining their confidence back, a poor pass from Joe Hart let Andre Silva drive into the box and drill the ball past the Englishman. Two minutes earlier, VAR ruled out Dominik Szoboszlai’s brilliant finish in the corner of the net, so Celtic will be extremely annoyed to have conceded so quickly.

The game was put to bed as Silva got his second of the night after Mohamed Simakan received a long zipping ball from his own half, crossing it to the striker who was able to slot it home.

A disappointing night for Ange Postecoglou’s men who would’ve been eager to gain more points in the group. It’s a massive night next Tuesday for Celtic as they hope to get revenge over RB Leipzig in a must-win game at a hostile Celtic Park.
