Celtic Women vs Motherwell Women match preview

Fran Alonso’s Celtic side welcome Motherwell Women to the Excelsior Stadium on Sunday 18th December.

Once again, Alonso’s aim will be for his side to close the gap between themselves and city rivals Rangers with only one point separating the two sides. He will also be hoping his side close the gap on Glasgow City as they remain three points behind the league leaders. Alonso will have to rely on both sides dropping points, but his main focus will be getting past Motherwell.

The last time the Ghirls played The Women of Steel they came out on top with a dominant eight goal thriller and Alonso will be hoping for more of the same when they welcome the visitors to Airdrie.

It is the last game before the winter break, so it adds more fuel to the fire for the hosts and the Ghirls will want to mark the end of the year on a high.

Celtic midfielder Liv Chance is looking for her team to continue their impressive current form and finish 2022 with another victory and a clean sheet.

When speaking ahead of the game, Chance said: "We can always take the positives from the last game, but it's also about consistency and in the last couple of games I think we have really stepped up and we’re playing better as a team, so hopefully we can show that this weekend.

“It's massive for the whole team, but especially for the defensive unit and the goalkeepers.

“They want to keep clean sheets, and if we’re scoring goals and not conceding, then we’re winning games, so the most important thing is that we can keep a clean sheet so we can let the attackers score goals and have fun.”
