Dominant display in Airdrie: Celtic Women 7-0 Dundee United Women

As the Celtic women welcomed Dundee United to the Excelsior Stadium, it was Fran Alonso’s ladies who came out on top in a seven goal thriller.

It didn’t take long for Alonso’s side to get the game going as it was on the third minute that Clarissa Larisey struck it home for the opening goal of the game.

Celtic had to wait till the 20th minute for their second through Shen Mengyu, who struck the ball in after a low cross at the back post from Amy Gallacher, who got her own goal four minutes later, giving the Hoops a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.

Mengyu got her second goal of the evening shortly before the hour mark after hitting the ball in the back of the net from Gallacher’s back heel.

The next two goals for Celtic came in the 73rd and 81st minute and it was academy graduates, Maria McAneny and Tiree Burchill who both earned their first senior goals for the club.

As the game was coming to a close, Mengyu bagged her third goal and Celtic’s final goal of the evening in the first minute of stoppage time.

Overall, it was a dominant display from start to finish with Dundee United not being able to stop the quality display from the Ghirls.

The result means Celtic remain third in the league and three points behind leaders Glasgow City.

Celtic’s next fixture is against Motherwell on the 18th December and Alonso’s side will be looking for another dominant display to remain at the top end of the league table.
