Premier League: Three key Moments as Liverpool Beat Rivals
The Premier has entered the crunch point of the season, European spots, relegation spots and the champions still to be decided.
Liverpool Sink Everton as They Keep Pressure on (Liverpool- 2 Everton -0)
Liverpool remain a point behind Manchester City, they remain hot on the trail as the teams go into the final stretch of the season. This win keeps the reds’ quadruple hopes alive as they remain in all competitions and already having one trophy secured. They will now prepare for a crunch Champions League tie versus Villareal before another tough fixture away to Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.
Everton are now in the bottom three of the Premier League table after their defeat to Liverpool. With Chelsea next for Frank Lampard’s team, the chances of staying up are looking less and less likely. They may have played one less game than Burnley, but the recent surge of form will only worry the Toffees as they look to remain the only club in English top flight history to not get relegated.
It was a game full of excitement and drama for both sides. Everton’s game plan was simple, sit 11 men behind the ball and try hit Liverpool on the counter. The Toffees were constantly let down by childish antics by some of their players as they looked to constantly con the referee with petulant diving. They will however, feel aggrieved that they didn’t get a penalty in the second half after Joel Matip seemingly clipped Anthony Gordon in the box. It would end up being the same old story for Everton, with Divock Origi coming off the bench and helping his team to their first goal before he scored himself.
Burnley win Sees Them Escape Drop Zone (Burnley- 1 Wolves -0)
The mere thought of Burnley sacking Sean Dyche was unheard of, but it is seemingly paying off for them as they now have escaped the bottom three after a second consecutive win. They still have a massive fight ahead of them if they are to avoid relegation but the recent recovery will only give their team hope for the remaining fixtures this season.
Wolves’ European hopes are beginning to fade away from them this season. They are however, still in with a chance as they only sit three points behind West Ham and also having played a game less. They will need to make an almighty effort if they are to get it at any level however, with games against Manchester City and Liverpool still to come up for them.
It was a typical Burnley win, dig in and take whatever they can. They took their goal very well in the second half as Vydra scored to help them climb out of the bottom three. They will need to be resilient like they were in this game for the rest of the season if they are to stay up.
Arsenal Strengthen Top Four Hopes with United Dismantling (Arsenal- 3 Man Utd -1)
After wins against Chelsea and now Manchester United, Arsenal’s hope of getting Champions League football has been given a massive boost. They sit in fourth and two points clear of arch rivals Tottenham, who they are still to play this season.
With United losing to the gunners, it now seems to be a straight shootout for that final top four spot between the two North London clubs. Manchester United’s season is now all but over at this stage. Their chances of getting a top four spot now seems like a distant dream. Despite the announcement of Erik Ten Hag arriving as their new coach in the summer, it failed to motivate their team ahead of this crucial fixture. Players are seemingly disinterested playing for Rangnick and don’t care for the team. It was the first time in a while where Man United will feel they played well and didn’t get the result they deserved. Tavares and a Saka Penalty saw the gunners storm into a 2-0 lead, a Cristiano Ronaldo strike was proven to be in vein as a Granit Xhaka screamer saw Arsenal walk away with all three points.
