Glasgow Warriors Must go all in for Final Game
With the defeat to the Bulls and the tour of South Africa behind them, the Warriors must gamble their chance at European Rugby next year by defeating Edinburgh in an epic showdown at Murrayfield. This will help them reach the top eight in the league and go onto the Heineken European cup next year.
Both teams are tied at fifty points each in the league, and due to the new rules introduced in the Welsh shield competition, there will now be one Welsh team that has taken one of eight places.
They meet on the 12th of May to decide which team will go through to the prestigious European tournament next season. The match is also the second leg of the inter-city 1872 Cup, the match will also decide who takes this Scottish-Italian trophy home.
Mike Blair, Edinburgh coach said: “The big one to play for is obviously the Heineken Cup stuff” after the 16-10 defeat by Ulster in which the hosts lost their unbeaten home record but gained a bonus point which sealed their play-off place.
“I reckon we can get an incredible crowd. It is the last regular game of the season and there is so much to play for. It will be brilliant to see a packed-out Murrayfield.”
Despite the game being played at Murrayfield, the back row forward would have preferred that the DAM Health Stadium would have been a preferable venue. Ryan Wilson the backrow forward for the Warriors said: “Edinburgh was always going to be a must-win, it doesn’t matter where it’s played. It would probably have suited us better at the DAM Health as it’s a pitch that we’re used to. But it doesn’t make a difference to us.”
So, to end the season we have the two only professional Scottish rugby union teams clashing for a spot in next years European tournament. With the National stadium packed to the rafters this one will be a must for all Scottish rugby fans and a clash with so much on the line, will be remembered in Scottish rugby union history for a long time to come. It has been an interesting season and hopefully the next one will have a lot of highs for the Glasgow Warriors.
