League action for the Ghirls: Glasgow Women vs Celtic Women match preview
Fran Alonso’s Celtic side return to league action for their first league fixture of 2023 with a trip to New Tinto Park to face Glasgow Women.
Celtic are coming off the back of a dominant Scottish Cup victory against Falkirk and will be hoping to take that form into their league fixture.
Glasgow Women also won their last game, booking their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup after defeating Inverness City 5-1. However, they are 12th in the SWPFL, having lost all of their league games.
Alonso will be confident that his side can maintain their winning ways and continue to put pressure on Glasgow City and Rangers who sit above them in the league.
They are currently six points behind league leaders Glasgow City, but Alonso’s team have a game in hand and will look to shorten the gap. Whereas, Rangers are currently one point ahead in second place, so a Celtic win and Rangers slip up is required for the Hoops to leapfrog their rivals in the title race.
Celtic are four games unbeaten and have scored 20 goals during that period as they aim to build their title credentials.
Amy Gallagher was a standout in the Ghirls last fixture, scoring a hat-trick. Gallagher will be hoping for another good display. She said: “I don’t really set targets, but I would like to score as many as possible, assist as many as possible and help the team as much as I can.
“We go into every match the same and treat the team with respect.”
The game against Glasgow Women kicks off at 12pm on 15 January 2023.
