Spider-man 2 game review

Spider-man 2 is Insomniacs third entry in the series, and became the fastest-selling Playstation Studios game over a 24 hour period, selling 2.5 million copies in one day

Releasing on the 20th of October this year and following on from Spider-man (2018) and Spider-man: Miles Morales (2020) Insomniac’s Spider-man 2 is a sequel that raises the stakes and scope from its predecessors.

Opening with a captivating action sequence facing off against the Sandman, Spider-man 2 hooks you right from the get-go. Acting aa a reintroduction to both familiar characters from the previous instalments and an introduction to many of the mechanics added in the new game.

The game’s traversal has received a significant addition in the form of the web wings that let you glide through the streets of New York and launch yourself all the way from Manhattan to the suburbs of Queens. The expansion to the game’s map makes these upgrades even more worthwhile, giving you new areas to swing around and fight crime.

By introducing the fan favourite black suit, Insomniac is able to give a fresh but familiar take on the classic symbiote storyline. Giving us the angst of a stressed Peter Parker who’s reliant on the symbiote’s strength and a Miles Morales who’s struggling with the allure of revenge.

Not only do we get the classic Spider-man character drama, but we also get some iconic villains from the web head’s rogues gallery. With Kraven the hunter being the main focus for the majority of the first act, showing a new take on the famous Kraven’s last hunt comic storyline. However, Venom all but stole the show in the third act, building up to a grand finale wrought with intense fighting and theatrics.

While the game provides a fun experience with enjoyable, engaging gameplay and a captivating story. It does somewhat fall short in a few regards, the most notable example being the game’s lack of new game plus at launch. With other features like the option to switch between time of day being missing as well. Disappointingly several suits from the previous instalments are also missing as well as several of the suits being locked behind the paywall of the digital deluxe edition.

Despite games pushing for more expensive price tags, Spider-man 2 offers a such worthwhile experience that you will definitely get your money’s worth. Giving you all the drama and action, you could want from a Spider-man story while facing off against the hero’s classic villains.
