Film Review: 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania'
The days have long since passed when a new Marvel movie got the audience on the edge of their seats and racing to the cinema. Whether that be the sky-high ticket prices from your chosen cinema provider or the lacklustre storytelling that the franchise has recently been under scrutiny for. Their most recent blockbuster to enter theatres is the new Ant-Man movie, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’. An explosive look into a previously unexplored realm within the MCU, the ‘Quantum realm’.
After seeing the movie on opening night, the screening was surprisingly full. This is because previous releases such as 'Black Panther, Wakanda Forever' did not have as big a turnout as expected. The film started off well, with the added comedy that we expect from a Marvel movie especially the Ant-Man ones from the past. Paul Rudd, the actor who plays Scott Lang (Ant-Man) takes on the role of the character perfectly, with the perfect amount of humour and serious acting needed to play the role properly.
The movie introduced a new menacing villain in this film, ‘Kang the Conqueror’ who was set up to be a really great ‘Bad Guy’. However, he was not utilised enough and that his character came across as slightly anti-climactic. Jonathan Majors who plays the role of Kang really engrossed himself in the character's narcissistic and arrogant personality arc, really demonstrating his almost insane and fractured mind. The MCU recently has been throwing out TV shows and Films as a catch-up from the losses of the pandemic and it is taking a toll on the quality of work that they are producing.
Overall, This movie is definitely the best out of the Ant-Man trilogy but falls short of being a blockbuster masterpiece in regards to a generally good watch film. It is close to the bottom of the pile when it comes to actual MCU work. The CGI fell short of films from previous years and the writing was sub-par.
★★★- This film is not on the list for re-watching.
