Celtic 3-2 Rangers: Three things we learned
The fourth Old Firm derby of the season will go down in the history books as a breathtaking five-goal thriller took place at Celtic Park. Here are three things we learned from the weekend’s match:
Rangers are yet again their own worst enemy
Although Rangers can take positives from Saturday’s performance, at times going toe to toe with Celtic, it was their own individual errors that cost them in the end. Coming out after the break with the scoreline at 1-1 with goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and James Tavernier, Rangers looked confident that they could get something from the game. However, a terrible attempted clearance from Ben Davies allowed Jota to knock it into the path of Kyogo, securing his double with a superb finish. For Celtic's third goal, John Souttar played a short back pass to Allan McGregor which left him stranded, leaving Jota to pounce at the ball and make it 3-1. Two separate cases of individual errors from both central defenders are simply not good enough. Rangers managed to get a goal back with Tavernier scoring his 100th Rangers goal with a superb header but ultimately it wasn’t enough.
KyoGOAL
Kyogo Furuhashi continued his incredible goalscoring season as he earned his 21st and 22nd league goal this season. With some people questioning whether he can turn up on the big occasion, he has answered in full voice as he now has five goals in his last three meetings with Rangers. He is a goal machine who is loved by the fans, operating at a rate of a goal every 88 minutes. The numbers speak for themselves and Celtic will have to do a lot to keep hold of their star striker in the summer.
Glasgow Celtic champions
This victory for Celtic all but confirms their 53rd league title and their second under Ange Postecoglou. They have set a new club record with the most wins and points from their first 31 games of the season, winning 29 and securing an astounding 88 points. They have won all 16 of their league home games and are 12 points clear of second-place Rangers. The message ‘We never stop’ has been ingrained into the Celtic players and their performances this season back this statement.
