The Tap yard: taking Merchant Square by storm with sports and beer
By Euan Moore
Glasgow is a city with a huge passion for two things in particular, sports and alcohol consumption. So, you combine both and create a sports bar and you get a popular and well received venue. The Tap Yard opened in Merchant Square in the summer of 2023 and has been the spot to go to watch all forms of sports.
On the ground floor, The Tap Yard offers three 65-inch televisions situated above the bar, normally displaying three different things meaning there is something for everyone to enjoy. Aswell as this there is the option of sitting in one of the six “choose your sport” booths which seat between four and eight people and have a 32-inch television that you decide what you want to watch.
When you make your way upstairs, there is a further three booths, and the “Tap Tables”. With this, you get a table that seats up to 10 people, a beer tap, a 20-litre keg of Heineken, a 65-inch tv and table service from the fabulous staff all night.
In terms of prices of drinks, the most popular pints include, Madri (£6), Guinness (£6.50), Tennent’s (£5.50) and Staropramen (£6.50). The bar offers a huge variety of soft drinks, beer, cider, wine, spirits, liqueurs and cocktails all available.
As well as a wide selection of drinks, there is a fantastic array of food to choose from, such as loaded fries, burgers, “small plates” (generic starters), sharers and sides.
The Tap Yard offers student prices with great value discounts between Monday to Thursday, with up to 30% off being offered on selected food and drink such as Tennent’s and Madri.
The process of booking a table is a pretty simple one, just go on the website, select the date and the number of guests, where you would like to be seated and you simply fill in your name, number, email address and any additional requests you have.
Moreover, the Tap Yard offers live music, with performances on Thursdays and Sundays after the sport viewing has finished.
Overall, the Tap Yard is a fantastic place for a night out with your friends, or even just to chill out, have a few drinks and enjoy some sports. Due to its closeness to the city centre, it is in a perfect location to hit the clubs when it closes.
