Stars shone at the Scottish BAFTAs
Glasgow held the annual BAFTA Scotland ceremony, where the winners were announced on Sunday evening, 17 October.
Edith Bowman hosted the award show, which aims to celebrate and promote talent in Scotland.
There were 15 awards that were presented throughout the star-studded ceremony, with beloved actor David Tennant included in the winners.
Out of Darkness, a Stone Age horror film directed by Andrew Cumming, was the big winner of the night with three awards; Best Film, Kit Young won Best Actor, and Sofia Oakley-Green won Best Actress. Widely deserved, this film is incredibly important to show that films of this calibre can be made in Scotland.
Ashley Storrie, daughter of the late Janey Godley, and a standup in her own right, won two awards. She was awarded Best Writer - Film/Television, with Matilda Curtis, for the hit BBC show Dinosaur. She was also won the public vote voted for her lead performance within the show. Tearfully, she announced that her last words to her late mother were: “I’m going to win a BAFTA for you.”
However, Baby Reindeer, the huge Netflix success failed to bag any awards at the ceremony. Richard Gadd was nominated for Best Actor – Television, Best Writer -Film/Television, and the Audience Award: Favourite Scot on Screen, but was beaten in all three categories. A BAFTA Scotland award won’t be joining his Emmys anytime soon.
