The benefits of AI pets
Electric animals aren’t only just toys for children anymore. With technology continuing to advance some companies have managed to create AI pets. Currently, it’s mostly robotic but life like, walking and talking cats and dogs that have hit the markets. But, as technology develops there is no doubt that parrots, hamsters and even more animals such as goats and cows will come into creation, as strange and out of place as this may seem.
AI pets can have an abundance of advantages. They aren’t that expensive and can be easily purchased through sites such as Amazon and Robopets. The pricing of the cats and dogs can range from £20 upwards depending on where you’re buying from. Since these pets don’t need food, water, healthcare or toys they are cost effective and therefore much cheaper than pets with a pulse.
Amelia Anderson from Glasgow said: “I think this could be the next big thing. What's better than a pet you don’t need to take care of?”
Unlike a real animal, AI pets don’t require attention. It would be completely up to the owner as to when and how they would like to spend time with their dog or cat. These animals also come with many different motions and sensors to make them seem as real as possible. If you were to pet or cuddle them then the motions would sense it therefore making the pet aware and responsive to your emotions and feelings by responding just as a real animal would.
Mark Kempten from Glasgow said: “I like that because I’ve always wanted a pet but I’m always travelling, so that sounds grand.”
AI pets have also proved helpful with different types of mental health struggles. They can reduce stress, depression, loneliness and even things like dementia, according to the Home Care Association.
Ryan George from Glasgow said: “If it’s helping people feel less alone, I’ll have to look into it for my grandad as he lives in a care home and we can’t always be with him so this could help.”
