Celtic Park on a Champions League night

Celtic ended bonfire night with a bang as they shot past RB Leipzig beating them 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. After an outstanding Hampden display at the weekend against second place Aberdeen, there could have been room for a hint of tiredness shown from the team, yet they went to Celtic Park and gave the fans a statement performance. For years gone by there has been something missing from Celtic in the Champions League, but in their current campaign, they are showing football fans across the world why they are a European-standard side.

A standout for the team this season has been Nicolas Kuhn. The 24-year-old winger joined from Rapid Wien last season and so far, he has an impressive 19 goal involvements in 16 games. This is a huge shift in form for the German as last season his performances were extremely inconsistent, and many Celtic supporters were calling his ability into question. On Tuesday, Kuhn managed to bag himself two goals against Leipzig and many fans have been hailing him for his performance on the night.

When the team line-up was announced for Celtic, there was a key name that Celtic fans were happy to be see back in the lineup; Greg Taylor was back from injury and ready to start. This season, Taylor has been a pivotal part of the squad in certain games and has proved he is worth his place in the team. He comes back in to replace La Masia graduate and loanee Alex Valle after a couple of promising performances in place of the Scotland international. This switch had no negative impact on the game as Taylor grabbed a vital assist as the Celts cruised to yet another impressive victory.

The form of Celtic in Europe’s premier club competition continues to improve. The 5-1 win in the opening game against Slovan Bratislava got the Bhoys off to a solid start, although followed by a 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. However, a solid draw against European champions Atalanta in Bergamo to restore the support’s wavering faith.

Celtic fans were extremely impressed with Tuesday night's performance with season ticket holder Charlie Scally from Rutherglen saying, “The last two games in the Champions League have been impressive from Celtic, we have certainly improved in terms of our attacking play. The result is massive for the team, and I believe that Celtic can go on to win at least two of their next four Champions League fixtures."
