Poppy Playtime - Chapter 4, Trailer analysis

With Poppy Paytime - Chapter 4 just coming out this is the perfect time to deep dive analyse all the details we can find in the trailer and all the past games put together to decipher what hidden sinister secrets are tucked within the stitches of Playtime Co's discarded toys. This article will contain spoilers for Poppy’s Playtime!

Who is Doey the Doughman?

Through MOB Entertainments domain expansion list where they trademark the names for their characters, we found out months ago that two characters that were confirmed for the game would be Yarnaby and Doey the Doughman. Through the game trailer on the 26th of January, we were given a full body view of the man himself and through the trailer dialogue we can hear from him he seems to be an ally that guides us through the sub-stationed prison levels.

But can we trust this newly found ally? Doey was teased all the way back in Chapter 2 when you reach the room of recalled toys, you can find a section for him and his toys with a description from playtime manufacturers calling the toys a “biohazard” and “best kept away from children”. With this small teaser we can see from the very birth of his concept he is an outcast in every way, a soul that never had the chance to be played with and was then locked away to one of the deepest depths of the facility.

In the trailer for chapter 4 we can also hear Poppy say, “You lied to me!” at 1:33 indicating that she will be betrayed at some point in Chapter 4 but whether that's from Ollie or Doey is yet to be revealed. With the amount of attention that MOB is putting on Doey instead of “the Doctor” the supposed main antagonist of the chapter puts the question into perspective if our gooey friend is all that he seems to show.

Who is The Doctor?

Speaking of the main antagonist game theorists and fans who read the employee handbooks and game alternate reality game (ARG) have put together enough evidence that Harley Sawyer is “The Doctor” a disturbed mad scientist that tried to achieve immortality by rebirthing human bodies into toys under the guise of “the bigger bodies initiative” and when his crimes were revealed, the company took his mind and digitalised his conscious to make him more containable. But it appears that in his newly robotic form, he’s taken control of the buildings security systems and only time will tell how far his reach goes.

Who is Yarnaby?

In 1990, a young orphan named Quinn Navidson was chosen to become Experiment 1166 and through the ARG we can discover that Harley Sawyer groomed Quinn at an early age because he was severely autistic with signs of extreme aggression from tests showing that he enjoyed ripping the heads off toys and scaring the other kids.

From these ideas of Quinn, it can be deduced that Yarnaby will not be a speaking or even thinking antagonist and will much rather be fitted to be an animalistic pet following the doctor's orders.

What is the location we will be exploring?

Taking place in the prison floor levels of the Playtime Co this is where Harley created “the bigger bodies” experiments and every monster that you’ve faced in the game up to that point. This floor contains the prison cells to contain experiments, unruly employees and potential company whistleblowers. As well as the surgery rooms from where the experiments were created.

Apparently, another place hidden away on this floor is somewhere called “the safe haven”, which is Doeys secret hideaway to keep smaller toys safe from the doctor's sight and supposedly a “safe haven”.

Conclusion

Only time will tell if this update gives us answers or more questions but all that matters is this chapter gives us another insight into who or what the prototype is -the prototype being the hidden mastermind behind all the horrible events behind the events of Poppy Playtime since Chapter 1, the puppet master tugging on the literal marionette strings of all the toys and the eventual final boss of the Poppy Playtime universe.
