The Oscars - Who are the stars of the show?

With the 97th annual Academy awards just around the corner, lets take a look into the favourited nominees and their careers.
There are 23 categories for awards within the Oscars such as: Actor/actress in a leading role, supporting actor/actress, cinematography, costume design, directing and hair/makeup.
The film ‘Wicked’ received an astonishing 10 nominations across the categories.
Wicked is a musical, centring around Elphaba and Glinda. They dislike each other at first but soon form a close friendship.an Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) is just one Oscar away from having an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).
The EGOT is one of the most prestigious awards an entertainer can achieve with only 21 people ever being able to claim this award.
If Cynthia does win this Oscar, she will become the youngest EGOT winner in history at only 38 years old.
Another award nominee is Cynthia Erivo’s Supporting actress Ariana Grande. Ariana swapped her earlier acting career, appearing on Disney channel and Broadway musicals for her now majorly successful music career the star claimed starring in wicked was one of her life goals.
Demi Moore was nominated for best actress after her performance in The Substance.
The Substance follows Elizabeth Sparkle, who is fired from her job due to her age, creating a younger version of herself (Sue) using a black-market drug, with unexpected side effects that then destroys both versions of herself.
The substance has received five Oscar nominations.
While Demi has been a huge name in acting since the early 80s, before her recent golden globes award winning, she had never been nominated for any significant awards for her roles, even though she was the highest paid actress in Hollywood for a significant amount of time.
Within the actress category Demi is a favourite to win the award after her stellar performance in The Substance.
Timothée Chalamet was nominated for best leading actor after his performance in A complete unknown.
Set in New York City’s music scene of the early 1960s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old musician Bob Dylan's rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts as his songs become a worldwide sensation.
There are many critics claiming Timothée’s performance is one of the finest performances for American male actors all year, causing him to become a favourite to win this category.
With a total of 11 nominations for Emilia Pérez in various categories, the main actress will not be attending any award shows due to controverses.
Karla Sofía Gascón is a transgender actress who was making history as the first trans woman to be nominated for a golden globe, has now fallen into controverses due to problematic tweets which have caused her to face accusations of racism.
She has also made sexist and islamophobic remarks on her twitter.
This actress is no longer able to attend any media events for her film due to her problematic opinions being voiced.
There are so many deserving actors and actresses for these prestigious awards, while only one will win each category, every single nominee and crew who worked on these films deserve recognition for their hard work, creativity and brilliance.
