The last two titles have been decided by last minute goals on the final day of the season and last year the champions won their title on goal difference against their city rivals.

This year there are five teams in contention for the title heading into the final 10 fixtures of the season with the top four all separated by only three points, the SWPL has once again proven itself as one of the most exciting and competitive leagues not only the women’s game but football in general.

Glasgow City and Hibernian are at the top with City ahead only on goal difference, with Rangers two points behind and last season’s champions Celtic a further one behind them.

Even 5th placed Hearts are only five behind the champions but with the Hoops heading to Edinburgh on Sunday that gap could easily be cut to only two.

Speaking at the SWPL’s top six split media event the managing director of the SWPL spoke on the quality of the league.

Speaking to BBC Sport she said: "We're just delighted that we've got an incredible run-in to look forward to, and I think we've got the best title race in Europe, I really do.

"To have, after 22 games, four clubs within three points of each other, it's unprecedented, or certainly something that I can't recall in recent memory."

“To have four teams who all have it in their hands at this stage is so unique.”
