River Clyde - Poem

My waters were once pure,
Before all this pollution,
For that I am sure,
Was to be my retribution,
Were my waters too clean,
Was this river too strong,
I was once Queen,
Was my reign too long,
Glasgow once loved me,
Now it will end me,
I remember this young man,
He stood all alone,
He told me his plan,
To return to the bone,
He had nothing and no one,
Not a shoulder to cry on,
His life devoid of fun,
Then he stumbled upon,
An offer to console,
And so I swallowed him whole,
I know the cause,
It was not my reign,
It was indeed my flaws,
Which brought me such pain,
My waters were too inviting,
To those who stood above,
I should have been more frightening,
I shouldn't have offered my love,
To those tortured souls,
Whose life I have stole,
So on you go,
Ruin the great clyde,
I have nothing to show,
I have nothing to hide,
Pollute my essence,
Stain my spirit,
With your carbon presence,
There is no limit,
To the damage you can do,
Make brown what was once blue.
