Scotland internationalist Che Adams has equalled a record held by a Scottish goalscoring hero of the past this week, with his goal for Torino against Serie A rivals Udinese.

His goal against the Udine-based side—his tenth of the season—means he joins Denis Law as the most prolific Scottish player in the Italian club's history.

Law, who sadly passed away earlier this year, spent the 1961/62 season with Torino and scored 10 goals in 28 appearances before earning a move to Manchester United, where he is now immortalised with a statue outside Old Trafford.

Adams, who joined the club in the summer from Southampton, has netted 10 goals in 33 appearances. While Law still holds the better goals-per-game ratio, Adams now has the chance to surpass him and take the Scottish record outright.

Scotland Striker Che Adams has the chance to break records this weekend.

Adams has flourished in Italian football, scoring against sides such as Atalanta, Lazio, and Parma.

His success comes during an increasingly fruitful period for Scottish players in Italy, with countrymen Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Josh Doig, Lewis Ferguson, and Liam Henderson all plying their trade with Italian sides.

This marks a revival of Scottish presence on the Italian peninsula. Law was the first of several Scots to play in the Italian top flight, followed over the decades by the likes of Graeme Souness and Joe Jordan.

However, no Scottish player featured in the Italian football pyramid following Souness’s departure in 1986 until Henderson’s move to then-Serie B side Bari in 2018. Henderson would go on to become the first Scot since Souness to play in Serie A when his Hellas Verona side earned promotion in 2019—sparking a Scottish renaissance in Italian football.

Torino currently sit 10th in Serie A and will travel to Napoli on Sunday before wrapping up their season at home against Venezia next Friday. A goal in either match would see Adams break Law’s 63-year-old record.
