Scottish Muay Thai will be standing on the world stage as Deachkalek Academy’s Nico Carrillo is set to fight the “Kicking Machine” Superlek Kiatmuu9.

Carrillo has been an explosive signing for One Championship, fighting three times in 2023 and knocking out the legendary Nong-O Hama in his third fight with the promotion. His activity and strength of schedule have made him an undeniable contender for the belt.

While Carrillo was originally the favourite to fight London’s Jonathan Haggerty in a Scotland-V-England grudge match, things were shaken up when Superlek jumped the queue and stopped Haggerty with a vicious elbow in under a minute.

Now confirmed to fight the man called the “greatest striker on the planet”, Carrillo is up to a much tougher task. Across his hundreds of professional fights, Superlek has not been stopped once. Carrillo thinks himself as the one to get the job done.

On the Leather’d Podcast, Carrillo said: “Right now, he is the number one pound-for-pound [all weight classes considered] striker on the planet. So when I go and beat him, that’s my name in the history books.”

Carrillo aspires for greatness and fully intends to shock the world by being the first man to knock out, perhaps, one of the best Thai boxers to ever do it. A victory at ONE 170 would be a historic moment in Scottish Muay Thai and could change the landscape of the sport forever.
